I have been an instructor with New Horizons Computer Learning Center since December of 1998. During that time here I have worn many caps and achieved many certifications.
I started at New Horizons as an Applications instructor focusing on the Microsoft Office Suite but was quickly moved into the Applications Supervisor position. In this role I was responsible for scheduling of instructors, daily supervision of instructors, career/goal planning with the instructors and even course and courseware approval. I was also responsible for courseware development for some classes we offered here such as Tech Prep and Access Design Strategies.

In addition I found the time to achieve my first Microsoft Office Specialist Master Certification version 1997. I also established a mentoring program in the applications department to help new instructors ease into their positions a little more gracefully. Every new instructor was teamed up with a “seasoned” instructor to help guide them through the sometimes difficult transition period. I feel that this greatly enhanced the department.

After about a year, I decided that I wanted to pursue technical certifications and moved out of the supervisor position and into the Certified Internet Webmaster certification track. I currently hold my MCIWD, MCIWSM, CIWCI, CIWP and CIWA certifications in this track and I am accomplished in the majority of the MCIWED certification including Java SE training. I also achieved my A+ and N+ certifications.

During this time I focused my energies on certifications but I still helped mentor new instructors and led any other instructors that wanted CIW certifications through the program.

Currently I have changed gears at New Horizons again and I am helping lead our Health Care Information Management program. This is a program that focuses on the Medical industry to help certify Medical Assistants and Professional Medical Insurance Specialists and Coders. I have already achieved my Certified Medical Administrative Assistant certification and my Certified Professional Billing Specialist. I am currently studying for my Certified Professional Coder certification. In this arena not only do I teach the classes that pertain specifically to achieving those certifications but I also have the ability to teach more of what we call the Professional Development classes, such as Managerial Leadership and Time Management.

I teach live classes here in our facility and I also act as a mentor to students that have chosen to take the classes we offer online. I lead them forward through their tracks answering any questions, ordering courseware and making certain they attend class and pass unit exams.

I have also pushed New Horizons of Columbus forward in the Medical Industry by establishing our facility as a NHA University, a testing center to administer any exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association.
